Andere projecten
We are all connected
You’ve probably heard the saying that pets often resemble their owners, and vice versa. I’d argue that this extends beyond pets to the entire animal kingdom. In many ways, we share more similarities with our favorite animals than we might realize. This collection delves into the idea of children forming connections with their favorite animals and exploring their shared curiosity.
Christmas cards
With Christmas being one of my favorite holidays, I knew I had to make my own Christmas cards someday. Combine this with my love for “dad-joke” like humor, add in some pop culture references, and you get something like this.
Storybook
A current project of mine: a children’s book! Inspired by nature, with the goal of teaching young children fascinating facts on wildlife while they enjoy a compelling story. Writing and illustrating a children’s book at the same time is a grand challenge, but one I am more than willing to take on!
From Idea to final illustration
Just as Rome wasn't built in a day, creative projects take time to develop. Brainstorming, planning, and conceptualizing are crucial for achieving great results. Below, you'll find the steps I follow when creating an illustration.
Inspiration
One day I stumbled upon these drawings from Medieval artists. They depicted bunnies as combative creatures and I felt inspired: what if bunnies were used for battles instead of horses?
Study
Study of anatomy is important in creating recognizable illustrations.
Creating this image required knowledge of the anatomy of bunnies and Medieval knights.
Sketch
First, a sketch is made to ensure proper lay-out and good composition of the illustration.
Linework
The next step is to draw the linework and add more details to the illustration.
Coloring
Coloring is always based on a certain color palette to ensure cohesion between the different colors used.
Details
More details are added, as well as shading and textures. After adding my signature, the illustration is finished.
